This week marks the Billboard chart debut of "We Are The World 25: For Haiti", the charity single which raises money and awareness for the plight of the Haitian people who were recently rocked by a horrific earthquake on January 12, 2010.
It was always going to be a challenge to cover such a unique and momentous recording. With Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie back at the production helm, they've certainly created a magnificent, updated rendition of the song for a worthy cause.
The single entered the US singles chart at #2.
And here is the awe-inspiring original from 1985...
The British, who started the charity single trend in 1984 with "Do They Know It's Christmas?", released their star-studded single for Haiti this week. "Everybody Hurts", originally recorded by R.E.M., was produced by Simon Cowell at the request of Gordon Brown, Prime Minister of the UK.
Proof that music can make difference.
