everybody had fun last night

It was a hot and humid evening in NYC last night. Wang Chung, currently on a US tour with MTV co-horts, Naked Eyes, played to a packed audience at B.B. King's in the heart of Times Square.

What's most striking about their songs is how well they stand up after more than two decades.

Wang Chung's set list featured all the hits and a few surprises including "Fire In The Twilight", their contribution to soundtrack to The Breakfast Club, and "I Never Want To Love You In A Half-Hearted Way", a track from their very first album when they were known as Huang Chung. They haven't played that song live in nearly 30 years!

They also played few new songs from their new EP, "Abducted By The 80s", of which one, "Stargazer", sounds amazing. As a final encore, they performed a raucous cover of The Beatles' "I Saw Here Standing There".

The full set list was as follows:

1. Wait
2. Fire In The Twilight
3. Let's Get Along
4. Don't Let Go
5. To Live And Die In L.A.
6. Stargazer
7. Let's Go
8. Rent Free
9. Dance Hall Days
10. Everybody Have Fun Tonight
11. I Never Want To Love You In A Half-Hearted Way
12. I Saw Her Standing There

Get out to see Wang Chung if they are playing in your town. They put on a strong, no frills show which gives you an idea of what kind of solid musicians Jack Hues and Nick Feldman are.

  1. My pal Brian is a huge Wang Chung fan. They timed their recent trip to Portland in order to catch the group's Seattle show. I've seen another clip of the group doing a lean, mean "Dance Hall Days" on a Chigago news website that sounded fantastic. Though I like their early, Ultravox-inspired sound, the new arrangement was very appealing.

Likewise, have you heard the new version of "Promised You A Miracle" that Jim Kerr cut as a duet with Martha Wainwright for Oxfam recently? It's another tracks that's a million miles away from its synthesizer origins but I have to admit, it sounds good to these ears.
