The month of March will see the release of "The Best Of Soul Train", a 9 DVD set featuring all the finest performances from the groundbreaking television show.
Recently, we interviewed Eddie Levert from the might O'Jays, who not only features in the infomercial for "The Best Of Soul Train", but also appeared on "Soul Train" many times.
Here's part one of our exclusive interview with Eddie.
And here's a clip of The O'Jays performing their landmark single, "Back Stabbers", on "Soul Train" during episode 33 from way back in 1972.
Oooh! Dig Don Cornelius' perfect afro and groovy threads! That's part of what makes watching "Soul Train" so much fun.

Craig David visits Motown
Smooth tongued R&B singer, Craig David, returns with a brand new single on March 15. "One More Lie (Standing In The Shadows)" is from his forthcoming, fifth album, "Signed Sealed Delivered".
Clever use of The Four Tops' Motown classic, "Standing In The Shadows Of Love", which reached #6 on both the US and UK singles chart in 1967. Levi Stubbs' remarkable vocal performance is still a spine tingling wonder after 40 years. Interesting to note that nobody has sampled it in the past.
Great to see Craig embracing the uptempo numbers again. The track starts off with a bit of a freestyle influence. Not sure if its parent album is going to be all Motown covers or new songs which sample the deep catalog of hits from the label founded in the Motor City.
Whether you are familiar with the original or not, you can check it out on "The Motown Collection". It sits alongside more than 150 other Motown classics.

right on track
Time Life is about to release "The Best Of Soul Train", a deluxe box set of DVDs which feature some of the most memorable performances from the show. Until now, they have never been available. Soon you'll be able to have them for your very own.
Here's a preview of the set.

Apparently, "Soul Train" wass one of the longest running, syndicated shows on television. Don Cornelius, host of the show since its launch in 1972, made it one of the most entertaining and groundbreaking programs while simultaneously showcasing the biggest soul artists in history.
Smokey Robinson, someone who appeared on "Soul Train" numerous times, is the host of Time Life's forthcoming infomercial for "The Best Of Soul Train". Together with Eddie LeVert from the mighty O'Jays and Jody Watley, Smokey talks about their fondest memories of the show.

turn off the lights
Sadly, soul legend, Teddy Pendergrass, passed away yesterday at the age of 59. With 33, solo R&B hits charted after his career with Harold Melvin And The Blue Notes, he was the epitome of soul music through the 70s.
He may be gone but his voice will not be forgotten.

a taste of honey
Recently, we sat down to interview Bobby Goldsboro during the shoot for "Pop Memories Of The 60s", another in a long line of Time Life's succesful music infomercials.
Bobby's biggest hit is "Honey" which hit #1 on the singles chart in 1968. And it's prominently featured on "Pop Memories Of The 60s", naturally.
And if you take a look at the right hand pane on this page, you'll see that we uploaded a cheerful greeting from Mr. Goldsboro. He's a gentleman and an all around great guy.

great Danes

Danish sextet, Alphabeat, return with "Hole In My Heart", the second single from their second longplayer, "The Spell".
It's a dark and infectious, Italo house inspired pop nugget complete with plonky piano bits and little, electro blips and wooshes. The whole things builds to a fever pitch toward the end.
Denmark is mostly remembered for Aqua, the funny foursome who produced timeless songs of social commentary such as "Barbie Girl".
Bizarrely, the album has been available in their home country since the back end of last year, but it isn't on the cards for US release yet..
It looks like they splashed out a bit of cash on the video, too.
Does anyone remember the movie, "Innerspace"?

this is Phil talking
Something exciting for the first post of 2010. Looks like Phil Oakey and co. have signed a brand new deal with well respected label, Wall Of Sound. They're the folks that signed Grace Jones and released "Hurricane" to critical acclaim in 2008. And they're the home of Norwegian electronic maestros, Röyksopp.
Now they are turning their attention to The Human League, one of the great superstar acts from the 80s, who will return with their first album in nearly nine years!
It will be the follow up to "Secrets" which included the fantastic single, "All I Ever Wanted". It should've been a massive hit.
