musical passings

Sadly, two rock music greats passed away yesterday.

Gerry Rafferty, most remembered for the soft rock classic "Baker Street", left the planet at the age of 63.

Gerry had a few other hits like "Stuck In The Middle With You" as a member of Stealer's Wheel, as well as "Right Down The Line", another, soft rock, solo hit.

Also, Mick Karn, influential bassist with UK art quintet Japan, lost his battle with cancer. Mick was 52.

Japan were a little bit like Roxy Music and were very influential on Duran Duran. Mick's distinctive, fretless bass sound influenced many bands in the 80s.

The world will be a quieter place without the talents of Gerry Rafferty and Mick Karn.
