My pal Brian is a huge Wang Chung fan. They timed their recent trip to Portland in order to catch the group's Seattle show. I've seen another clip of the group doing a lean, mean "Dance Hall Days" on a Chigago news website that sounded fantastic. Though I like their early, Ultravox-inspired sound, the new arrangement was very appealing.

Likewise, have you heard the new version of "Promised You A Miracle" that Jim Kerr cut as a duet with Martha Wainwright for Oxfam recently? It's another tracks that's a million miles away from its synthesizer origins but I have to admit, it sounds good to these ears.

I love the rich percussion textures of "Rhythm is Gonna Get You"... "123" was definitely another favorite.

I still have a poster of Miami Sound Machine promoting their first album - its all the bandmembers lined up in front of some very colorful parrots and foliage.

Sometimes I miss that time. Thankfully, recordings like MSM and this blog take me back...

Keep checking their webstite (www.timelife.com) for more info. Of course, The Rewind will let you know the moment the DVDs become available. So bookmark us or subscribe.

It's difficult to put videos on DVD. Even though there is a lot of demand for it, there are very strict rules, as well as many financial and licensing obstacles that prevent companies from issuing videos on DVD. But Time Life always goes the extra effort to make them available when it's possible.

Daphne & Celeste! "U.G.L.Y you ain't got no alibi." What a claim to fame. Totally forgot about them. Remember Shampoo? I really liked them. They were all about girl power before Spice Girls.

They remind me of sort of a cross between Daphne & Celeste and Lily Allen. A friend of mine has been going on about them for months; I only got to hear them two weeks ago when he posted a vid on facebook he recorded at Birmingham pride where they played. Apparently Richard Stannard (Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Kylie Minogue, Spice Girls) has written some tracks for them.

And yes I do like the song, in-spite of myself :-)
